Best Games on the Surface by Microsoft | March 2013

Gaming on the Microsoft Surface makes a lot of sense. It’s got a large, rich display, a USB port so you can use an Xbox Controller or a mouse and keyboard combo. What are the best games for Surface, the ones that really make use of the hardware? Read on to find out…

Guns 4 Hire

Guns 4 Hire is a very impressive game for the Microsoft Surface tablet. The sound and visuals are on par with the best action games on the newest iPad and are reminiscent of original Xbox games. It’s a top-down squad based strategy game with a heavy focus on action. Progress through each level by eliminating all enemies and collecting items throughout the map.

PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX

Who doesn’t like PAC-MAN? This is a high production value remake of the popular classic with flashy visuals and support for the Xbox game controller. It plays exactly like the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game which basically turns your Surface into an Xbox 360 on the go.

Skulls of the Shogun

This game is another great example of high production value. A lot of work went into making this game playable in a cross-platform competition, meaning that you can play on your Surface or Windows Phone against your friend on their Xbox 360. How awesome is that? Some of the game’s features include…

·       Fast-paced arcade-inspired blend of arcade action and turn-based strategy!
·       Meet & recruit magical animal monks, power up your army to imposing war demons, and conquer the samurai afterlife!
·       Play 20 levels of hand-painted, story-driven single player campaign mode.
·       Play anywhere! Eat your friends’ skulls in online asynchronous multiplayer across Xbox 360, Windows 8 and Windows Phone 7
·      Battle up to 4 players at once on custom multiplayer maps, both locally and online (asynchronously)
·       Play, save and resume your game across resume across all three platforms.

Real Envoy 2 Special Edition

I’m not really even interested in simulation games but this game for the Surface is very addictive. The basic goal is to restore small towns throughout the kingdom and make them functional again. Like any simulation you have to balance the different assets you have ( money, food, man-power ) to accomplish your goals before the time runs out. There are occasional breaks in the gameplay to have snowball fight.
